House of Dreams, Dulwich

In October I visited the House of Dreams. This incredible work of art is tucked away on a quiet residential street in Dulwich. Since 1998 artist Stephen Wright has been transforming his home into a incredible museum.

You enter the house through an amazing garden, and then into the hallway which is covered with white writing on the black walls and ceiling, Stephen's Memory Boards. Every surface of the house is rich with mosaics and found objects, from doll parts to colourful bleach bottles, beads and fly swats, to name a few.

Wright's large textile dolls were a highlight for me (see drawings above and below).

Dotted through the house are memorials to people Wright has lost. I felt quite emotional as you are entirely immersed in Stephen's art. Meeting him was an absolute honour.
