Conversations

I wanted to represent to role of listening in the piece I am making for the NHS 70th anniversary. I have worked with many different psychiatrists, psychologists, CPNs and therapists throughout my illness. Feeling listened to is incredibly valuable when living with a mental illness.

Using alginate I made a plaster cast of an ear and of my mouth. I wanted them to work in tandem to represent the conversations that occur in NHS consulting rooms between patients and professionals. The mouth also represents the need to speak openly with professionals about my illness, even when I want to remain silent.
