I have been experimenting with dipping twisted and bound fabric into wax. It is best to dip the fabric in the melted wax twice to get an even coating. It makes the fabric solid, but quite brittle and fragile. I like that wax drips, it is semi translucent and coats your fingers when melted.
Wax has many associations for me. A waxing moon, bees and hive minds, candles and light. As a child I remember playing with the wax from candles in a Catholic church during mass. During a visit to the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic I discovered wax poppets used in healing spells. The idea has stayed with me.
