I have been experimenting with making sculpture with willow, as part of my process experiments for my commission with Kings College. Willow is unlike any other medium I've used before. I began by drawing designs of what I wanted to make, but quickly learned that the willow has to lead the way - it cannot be bent into complex shapes as it will simply break. I learnt by touch the degree of flexibility in the willow, and the limits of tension and pressure it can withstand.
